Tea Time Tuesday

The spirit of the tea beverage is one of peace, comfort and refinement. ~ Arthur Gray

Welcome to Tea Time Tuesday dear tea friends~
I am posting my tea party earlier than usual because of Hurricane Irene which is headed our way. Due to possible power outages, I thought it wise to post today in case tomorrow I won't have access to my computer.

Today I am going to take you to a little tea room my hubby and I visited while on vacation.

There is a quaint little village on the Island known as Victoria-by-the-Sea and that is where we are going today.

The photo above is one I borrowed from the internet but all other photos are my own.

Victoria-by-the-Sea is a jewel set on the south shore of the Island. It is an historic seaport village founded in 1819 by James Bardin Palmer who was an immigrant lawyer and agent for the Earl of Westmoreland.
One can take a stroll along tree-bowered streets reminiscent of a by-gone era and find beautiful old homes trimmed with gingerbread, quaint little shops and studios, elegant restaurants and inns. A pleasant spot to relax and enjoy a slower pace of life for just a little while. It kind of reminds me of the imaginary little town of Cabot Cove in Maine where Jessica Fletcher lived on the hit TV series, Murder She Wrote; only on a much smaller scale.

As we made our way up the street, I stopped to take a picture of this lighthouse. There were blue hydrangeas everywhere.

Our next stop was at an antique shop where Hubby surprised me by getting me another teacup! I will show you the teacup another day.

There are many pretty houses, gardens, and sights to see. It is like stepping back in time.

I know today, Sunday the 28th, had been Tasha Tudor's birthday and I know she would have approved of this idyllic setting. This photo is from the book, The Private World of Tasha Tudor, which I won in a Giveaway last Fall from my tea friend, Bernideen.

Tasha Tudor would have fit right in!

This building is behind the tea room we will be going to. Notice the pretty floral wreath hanging on the door and the flower box on the little yellow cottage. There were linens hanging on the line, blowing softly in the breeze.

We turned the corner and made our way in to Mrs. Proffit's Tea Room and what a treat it was!

The exterior of the tea room itself bids you come in and have a cup of tea. Isn't it charming?

I love the flower boxes and the lace in the windows!

Once inside we were seated at a darling little table decorated in red and white. The atmosphere was simply delightful. Florals and gingham, don't you love it!

Love the white tea things placed in the center of each table!

OK, let's take a look around.....Love these plates which our server said she had found at a yard sale. You know me and my love for red toile and transferware. They caught my eye right away!

There were teacups adorning shelves and hanging on hooks.

Loved these teacups!

The cup above has a sweet little English cottage scene on it.

This little teapot was for sale too.

A pretty tureen and bags of specialty teas.

A tea trolley with pretty teacups all ready to be put to use.

Close-up of the teacups; love the yellow one.

Hubby and I decided on a tall glass of iced tea instead of a cup of hot tea as it was quite hot outside.

We also had dessert with our tea. Hubby had trifle.

And I had a lovely carrot cake with cranberries and walnuts in the warm cream cheese sauce. It was scrumptious! I make a really nice carrot cake but I have to admit that this was about the best I've ever tasted! I must remember to add cranberries and nuts to the sauce next time I make it.

They use real china and isn't it much nicer to enjoy a nibble off pretty china?

They had hats that one could wear while enjoying their tea. I don't know about you, but I love hats and I seldom go out without one on!

Our lovely server took our pictures wearing our hats. Hubby looked so dapper in his bowler. He's such a good sport!

I don't like the camera but I wanted you to see my pretty hat. It matched my outfit.

Thank you for coming along with me today. If you are ever on Prince Edward Island, you must stop by Victoria-by-the-Sea. It is a lovely place to visit.

Tea Time Tuesday

"A friend is the sugar bowl in the tea party of life,
Sweet and satisfying to the soul." ~ Unknown

Welcome dear friends to my 82nd Tea Time Tuesday.

I hope everyone enjoyed a nice weekend. Old Home Week is over for another year and I'm so glad! I don't like crowds and the Island gets so crazy busy this time of year. Traffic is unreal and well, I just like it better when things have quieted down.
Here on the Island, they also say that Summer is over when OHW is over but I'm not believing it! Judging by the weather forecast for this coming week, I would say our Summer is just beginning. I have noticed the last few years that the nicest part of Summer is in late August. We spent the entire day at the beach yesterday. What a treat! We didn't want to leave, it was so lovely!

Before we begin our tea today, I want to ask you a question, "Do you ever get tired of seeing red?" I don't, in fact, I love seeing red! Red transferware, that is. And pink...

As promised last week, I said I would share some more of my finds. Well, actually, these are finds that other folks found and they gifted me with them. I am truly blessed with a wonderful family and friends; bloggy friends too!

I adore red transferware, in case you didn't know, and I pick up pieces whenever I see it. In this case, I didn't have to go far because my sweet cousin Val already had these pieces and she gave them to me. She had found them in a thrift store a while back. She collects mainly blue china and I collect red/pink. Out of the goodness of her heart, she blessed me with these wonderful pieces of Burleigh Victorian Chintz.

I don't know about you, but I love learning the history of a piece of china.

Burleigh is a family business established in 1851 and is still manufacturing a pure English earthenware product in the 21st century. Situated in Stoke-on-Trent, England, this factory takes great pride in its workmanship. Burleigh Factory Shop produces their famous blue and white china but they also have an array of other colourways as well; including red, pink, plum, and black.
"From Clay to Cup...Pure English" is their motto.

Damask roses and Primroses make up this lovely chintz pattern from the mid 19th century. Unfortunately, this pattern has been discontinued which makes it even more special. I would love to find a little jug to go with it.

The evening my cousin and I had gone junking, she found these darling pink depression glass bowls and goblets. I wanted to treat her so I bought them for her. Notice the lovely floral etching on the goblet.

Secretly, I wished I had found some too because I simply adore pink depression glass!
When we got back to her home, she surprised me the next morning by setting the breakfast table with these dishes and told me that she was giving them all to me. Three dinner plates, three salad plates, three bread and butters, and three teacups, as well as the coveted pink depression glass bowls and goblets.
Needless to say, I was flabbergasted!

Don't ever let anyone tell you that God doesn't give you the desires of your heart because He surely does!
Thank you Val, I will treasure them always and you, my dear cousin! Everytime I look at them, I will think of you.

So, let's set the table for tea...

We will start off with a nice glass of sparkling pink lemonade from France.

Mmm, it is delicious!

Bowls of fresh fruit...

"And the fruits will outdo what the flowers have promised." ~ Francois De Malherbe - Victoria magazine

....and freshly baked scones.... Notice the pretty Johnson Brothers Rose Chintz plate on which the scones are sitting!

....with your choice of strawberry jam, a lovely lemon curd from Britain, and some clotted cream.

A lovely rose graces the tea table.

The Rose Chintz plate is a gift from one of my lovely tea friends,  Carolyn
You are all familiar with Carolyn's blog, Aiken House and Gardens I'm certain. While she was on a trip to southern Maine, she saw this plate and thought of me! Wasn't that sweet of her?

Those of you who know Carolyn  know that her home and gardens are a haven and she hosts many garden tours throughout the summertime. She is a very gracious hostess and makes one feel right at home.
Isn't this a charming shot? This is one of the photos from her tea post a couple of weeks ago.

Not only is Carolyn a tea friend but we both live on Prince Edward Island and as little girls, we had spent many hours together playing with our dolls. So, I have known Carolyn for quite some time. Thank you Carolyn for thinking of me. Please be sure to visit her today.

Happiness is sharing tea with a friend.

I have tucked a few tea spoons into my vintage Rose Chintz double egg cup. This egg cup was given to me by my sweet Auntie P.

Love this pattern!

Would you like to try a scone? Some lemon curd and clotted cream with a cup of tea is such a treat.

The Victorian Chintz teacups are missing their saucers so I paired the teacup with one of my crystal embedded saucers. A little bling is always nice!

A cuppa and Victoria magazine; a lovely respite.

Thank you for stopping by Rose Chintz Cottage today. I am delighted to have you! I would love for you to join me for Tea Time Tuesday. Pink Saturday

Happy Pink Saturday!

Hello everyone. I hope you all had a wonderful week. I just heard that the Miracle Makeover response was over 5000. Congratulations to everyone who helped to make it so successful!

I am just getting back into my routine after being on vacation for a few weeks so my pink offerings are small today.

My rose bushes are slowly losing their blooms for another year but I managed to bring these little pink beauties in and make a wee arrangement in a tiny creamer. The creamer and saucer are from my beloved china pattern Rose Chintz by Johnson Bros.

Add in some sprigs of baby's breath and sprinkle some rose petals...Voila!

My sweet little granddaughter is growing fast and I just had to share the latest picture of her wearing her little hat. Her mother chose this little hat because she knows of my love for them. Smile pretty, Jenna-Lynn!

Both Jenna-Lynn and the hat are adorable, don't you think? She is now 8 months old. Squeezes from Nanny, Jenna-Lynn!

In case any of you missed my tour of Green Gables, please check my previous post.
Thanks for stopping by to see my pinks. Now go visit Beverly ~ http://howsweetthesound.typepad.com/my_weblog/   who has a host of pink participants for you to visit. Wishing you all a delightful weekend.
